Corner Paint Roller
You have purchased paint and brushes. However, you don't want to use a brush to paint those huge walls, which will last forever. Therefore, you need a paint roller and roller frame. If you go to a paint center or a family store, you will find a variety of frames and rollers of various sizes. There are large, small, fuzzy rollers and smooth foam rollers, cheap and expensive varieties.
Which ones are the most suitable? First, determine the project at hand. If you want to paint in a room with many open spaces on the wall, you need a paint roller frame to complete the work in the shortest time. The typical size of the frame and roller is 7-9. They are 12 to 18 inches larger, but unless you are a professional, it is impractical for many reasons. They have also become smaller.
It is important to ensure that the roller stand you purchase is of high quality. A good frame has a heavy-duty wire cage that can hold the roller tightly. It should also have a threaded end to accommodate the extension rod. Inexpensive frames usually have thinner wires, which cannot grip and allow the tube to slip. The ends of the best frames have bearing surfaces that can be smoothly covered, because the bearings make the rollers rotate evenly and consistently, in addition to looking good, it also reduces the pressure on the back, shoulders and neck. Smooth flow means fewer roller lines can be returned and repainted, which means less time and work to repaint the project. High-quality brush manufacturers (such as Purdy and Wooster) also manufacture roller frames and paint rollers. A good roller stand is less than ten dollars.
Now, the drum itself. Different jobs have different materials and thicknesses. The key to a successful paint job is a well-educated purchase. Take a look at the inner core of the drum. Cheap rollers have a cardboard core, just like a cardboard core for a roll of paper towels. This core will soon be immersed in acrylic paint from the water, lose its shape, or begin to spread out without staying on the frame. This is especially true if the surface of the roller is stuck to it, because the water and solvent in the paint will dissolve the glue. A good drum has a treated waterproof paper core or plastic core. The outer surface is not glued, but is thermally fused to the core, thus ensuring long-term use and repeated use. The surface fibers may be synthetic fibers, polyurethane foam or natural fibers, such as mohair, sheepskin or lamb wool.
The nature of the surface you want to paint determines the capillary or fluff of the fiber on the roll. The pile thickness of the roller is from 1/16 to 1 1/2. According to experience, the rougher the surface, the longer the fluff. This makes sense. A pile of shaggy hair has a lot of hair used to fix the paint and enter a rough surface, such as a brick. Flat thin rock or gypsum walls require smoother surfaces. The paint roller actually works due to the vacuum caused by the rolling motion, which pulls the paint from the roller to the wall. 1/8-1/4 of the smooth fluff is suitable for stucco, thin slate, forsterite or smooth wood. For slightly rough surfaces, such as sand and textured plaster, soundproof bricks, cast concrete or rough wood, use 3/8 to ½ naps. For rough surfaces such as concrete blocks, stucco, shingles, stones or cinder blocks, use rollers with a shrinkage of ¾ to 1½ inches.
The rollers can be covered with plastic bags and secured with cable ties at both ends for short-term storage, such as overnight. To clean the water-based paint roller, apply as much paint as possible to the wall, and then press down the excess paint along the roller before putting it back in the tray or can. Rinse with water, massage as much paint as possible, and then continue to rinse until the water drains. Let it dry naturally, then wrap it with paper towels. If you are using cheap paper rolls and you are not tired from uneven paint work and inevitable fleece on the surface, you should paint as dry as possible on the surface and let the roller dry completely before discarding . Next time, do yourself a favor and use a better roller.
